As Old Paludians will be aware Upton Court Grammar School has undergone a huge amount of investment and refurbishment over the last few years. New buildings have replaced the old Dining Hall and area around the tennis courts and the final phase of building a brand-new state-of-the-art sports centre is underway and should be complete this autumn.
In all the renewal the original 1936 building has not been forgotten. The school and trust leadership impressively fought for and received funds to overhaul and renew the whole building – from top to bottom. This process has not been without difficulty. The entire building was entirely off-limits for more than a year as students and staff worked around it – often in cramped and makeshift conditions. The discovery of quantities of asbestos complicated matters further.
Fortunately the work was completed by autumn 2018. The work carried out was impressive as the entire building was refurbished and the facilities are now top-tier.
A small ceremony was held on 14th December 2018 to officially re-open what the school now calls “The Legacy Building”. Members of the Old Paludians Association Committee attended on behalf of the Association.
The only thing now remaining is the brand new Sports Hall which will be ready in time for the 2019-20 school year. Once complete every part of the school will have been overhauled and state-of-the-art. Whilst the school facilities will be brand new however the principles of the school will be the same as they always have been. Ad Astra.
